Hello Everyone! My name is Crystal Keeley and I am in the MAT pilot program. I am really excited about this program and can't wait to start making a difference in the lives of children. I am happily married and we have 2 kids, Ryan is 14 and Lauren is 11. We moved from Winston-Salem, NC to Chapel Hill 2 years ago when my husband took a new position at work. We absolutely love it here and I am very excited to be in the MAT program. I am currently a physical education instructor at Duke University. I teach pilates and indoor cycling to the students. I have been in the fitness industry for almost 20 years, but I had back surgery in December, so I started to rethink my career and what I wanted to be when I "grow up!" I was lucky enough to stay at home with my kids and work part-time while they were younger but now I ready to focus on my career. Before moving I worked as a Health Educator at a local hospital. Kids came to us on field trips and we reinforced what the children were being taught in school; for example we do interactive actives on their bones, muscles and skin, taught them about the body systems and nutrition. While working there I realized I wanted to work with kids more, so that is what brought me to NC State!
A couple of books that I remember from my childhood are Shel Silverstein's A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk ends. Those were 2 books I remember my 1st and 2nd grade teachers reading to me. I loved them so much I begged my Mom to buy them for me.
I am looking forward to this class and working more with everyone!
Crystal
