My name is Jessica Meeks. I grew up here in Wake County. This is my ninth year teaching (eight years in 2nd grade and this is my first year in 4th grade). I have always enjoyed school and learning which is why I became a teacher.
I learned to read at an early age. I remember my Kindergarten teacher letting me read to the class. Throughout my childhood, my mom would take us to the library every week to check out books. It is a very vivid and enjoyable memory. I remember reading Miss Nelson is Missing. I enjoyed the illustrations. They were different than any other book's illustrations I had seen. The story was fun because there was a secret and I felt special because I figured out that Miss Nelson was disguised as Miss Viola Swamp.
As a 2nd grade teacher, I used that book to teach beginning of the year procedures and rules. The students also shared the excitement of figuring out Miss Nelson's secret.
